Hi Steve,
My Boyfriend has been suffering sciatica for quite awhile, he has done the rounds of therapy's and doctors to no avail. I have tried to help with information for him, and this is when I came across your book and SLM Yoga program. He has read your book now and is working into your program, he has also changed to a deep tissue massage which has helped heaps putting his pelvis back in place, but he is still having a lot of pain down his leg. The pain is more server at night, I have tried to talk about his water bed (old one, lots of waves) as I feel this is not helping him. When I sleep on it I wake up with the sores back.
I am also using the SLM Yoga program and as someone who has been practicing Yoga for 13 years I have found it very beneficial in helping me to become more aware of the muscles I am not using. :)

Could you please let me know your opinion on water beds.

Hi Light, the water bed would be a problem and should be the first thing to change. I recommend a firm bed with a layer of memory foam over the top (you can have beds made to order).Ask for a pocket spring mattress, a layer of dense foam and a layer of memory foam.

Try and see an SLM therapist if possible as although they do the deep muscle work they also know how to rebalance the pelvis which takes a lot of pressure from the spine around the area where the nerve irritation is setting off the sciatica pain.
