Low back pain diagnosis and treatment
« on: April 20, 2008, 11:05:21 AM »
I have been experiencing low back pain for some months which is very obvious when standing from a seated position or when standing up for some time such as when doing ironing.  I also experience pain when turning in bed and when coughing or sneezing.  My back, knees, ankles and finger joints are very stiff on waking which eases gradually after flexing the joints for about 20 minutes.

Back X-rays are clear and my doctor suggested I attend pilate classes to strengthen my core muscles.  Please can you advise how quickly I can expect to see results and how often I need to do pilate.  I am 51 and about 2 stone overweight.

Sounds like you have muscle spasms affecting you Carrie Ann. The pilates may irritate things as you need muscles released rather than strengthened or perhaps still strengthened but not until after they are released. The weight is also something you should address and my self treatment program will do all those things for you if you can't find a good holistic therapist that can.

Good luck
Steve.

Steve

I have been doing some research and discovered that there maybe a connection with my ulcerative colitis and low back pain.  Please can you confirm if an x-ray could have confirmed this connection or would further tests be required.

They will never be definite of that Carrie Ann, it will only ever be speculation.
