self treatment
« on: December 28, 2010, 02:04:30 AM »
Hi, I am a 36 year old male, 6 ft 1. weighing around 100kg, so a bit overweight, with an average diet, and up untill the onset of pain did some exercise (maily golf 2 times a week).
I have had left glute and lateral calf pain for about 6 months. My chiro sent me for CT scans which told me that i have a herniated disc at l4/l5 and a disg buldge at l5/s5.
I have read your self treatment book, and have a few questions.
I at first wasnt sure which area i fit into. But I have started doing the exercises from the sciatica section and the hamstring work from the pain below the belt line section. I am also swimming 3 - 4 times a week.
Just wanted to check that i am on the right track and seek some advice if i have missed anything, because after a few days of the self treatment the pain occassionally moves to my left lateral knee (and 6 inch above nd below the knee).
The pain is managable,  but in saying that, i am taking it very easy. I am missing my golf immensly also.

Thanks Custy

Hi Custy - The main bits to take from the self treatment program for your problem is doing the SLM Yoga, the double ball technique down the erectors and  extra on the problem side. Also the ball work on the hips and glutes and hamstrings. I prefer the water workout to the swimming as it gives the muscles a more complete and less irritating workout.

If you need further advice post a photo of your full body from behind in shorts.
